If you are a Reno local and have ever walked the shops through the Midtown district, you are probably familiar with the colorful painted building in The Sticks shopping center. Whether you are heading to Bibo for your morning cup of coffee or a college student making your way to Two Chicks after a long night, you can not miss this eye-catching shop, Satori Movement.

The co-owners of Satori Movement, Denelle Padgett and Jenifer Martin both have a passion for dance and love having a one on one connection with their customers.

Denelle Padgett, current graduate student at the University of Nevada Reno and Jenifer Martin, University of Nevada Reno Alumnia with a Degree in Business Management and Dance. After a recent interview on February 10th, 2020 we got an inside look on how they run their small business and how they have been doing during the pandemic.

They purchased Hello Yoga in 2018 and had an idea of rebranding in mind from the start. The previous owner of Hello Yoga no longer had her heart invested into her business and lost her spark. They were happy to relight that fire and bring the store back to life.

After slowly starting to incorpore dance clothing into their storefront, they are now the only store in Northern Nevada as well as the Lake Tahoe area that sells dance clothes.

The rebranding transition started around late October and early November of last year in 2020 which was a long process. The pandemic worked in their favor when it came to starting over their brand. Their customers were more accepting with the change.

When it comes to financial issues due to the pandemic, Satori Movement had a 78% decrease for this quarter but are more profitable this year than last year. Denelle and Jenifer were able to receive a small grant from the Audacity Institute as well as a few thousand from a SBA loan.

Jennifer and Denelle are thankful for the relationships that they have created with other small businesses in the area and say that they all help each other out and would never try to “step on one anothers toes”.

Satori Movement does not have any local competitors in the area. Amazon and Discount Dance online take few of their customers because of their fast and convenient shipping and returns.

When a shopper steps into Satori Movement they make sure they give them the best personal experience possible. They connect with everyone who walks through the door which establishes that each purchase made is the right one and justify the customer for “Shopping Small”.

This personal connection is what turns almost all customers into returning customers which now makes up a huge part of their clientele, about 50% are returning.

Satori Movement carries a couple brands that they have ownership over and can not be found anywhere else. They do not carry mens clothing because in the past they have lost profit from not selling. They aim to sell something within 30-days of ordering to consider it successful.

Although both Denelle Padgett and Jenifer Martin both have a full plate, they invest lots of their personal time into the quality of their business because they believe that what you put out in the world, you get back.
